When I became a wedding photographer back in 2012, I never could have imagined ending up here. "Here" as in having couples-turned-lifelong-friends, shooting hundreds of weddings at the most beautiful venues in Metro Detroit, and fueling my passion for travel by adventuring from coast to coast. It's such a dream and privilege to serve couples like you on a daily basis!
There’s just something about a wedding at the Detroit Institute of Arts that feels like pure magic. Audrey and Zack’s big day was no exception. It was modern, romantic, and absolutely gorgeous. I knew from the moment Audrey reached out that this was going to be special—and it exceeded every expectation.
The day started with both Audrey and Zack getting ready at the Westin Book Cadillac, a timeless hotel in downtown Detroit. Audrey was surrounded by her closest friends, many of whom I’ve had the pleasure of photographing before. Her excitement filled the room as I captured bridal details and sweet moments with her girls. Meanwhile, Zack and his groomsmen shared laughs and light-hearted banter in a nearby suite, adding to the day’s joyful beginnings. These early hours set the tone for a day filled with love and celebration, beautifully unfolding in one of the city’s most iconic settings.
We made our way to the Detroit Institute of Arts, where Audrey and Zack shared their first look under the gorgeous trees outside. This private moment was everything. You could see the love between them in every glance and touch. Immediately following their first look, they read beautiful private vows to one another, adding an extra layer of intimacy to the day. Right after, we captured portraits with their bridal party, family, and friends. The museum’s exterior provided the perfect backdrop for these elegant photos. Zack wore his late brother Zane’s cowboy hat for some of these outdoor portraits, a touching tribute that added so much heart to the day.
Afterward, we headed inside the museum for portraits, and it was pure magic. The breathtaking architecture and stunning artwork provided endless backdrops that allowed Audrey and Zack’s chemistry to truly shine. These two were on fire in front of the camera, effortlessly radiating romance and allure with every pose and glance. I guided them through my favorite spots, but we kept the vibe laid-back and intimate—perfect for capturing those candid, sexy moments. The museum’s unique setting only enhanced the raw beauty of their connection, making these portraits some of the most unforgettable of the day.
Guests arrived in the Prentis Court, buzzing with anticipation. As the ceremony began, emotions ran high while Audrey and Zack exchanged heartfelt vows. A subtle, yet deeply moving tribute to Zack’s late brother, Zane, was evident throughout the moment—his cowboy hat was set on a stand right next to them, a constant, touching reminder that he was there with them. This beautiful detail added an extra layer of meaning to the day, making every glance and promise even more profound.
Kresge Court offered an enchanting backdrop for the cocktail hour, grand entrance, toasts, and dining at the museum. The court’s brick walls, lush greenery, and twinkling string lights crafted a warm, secret garden-like atmosphere, inviting guests to relax and mingle in this hidden gem.
As the evening progressed, the celebration shifted to Prentis Court for dancing. The vibrant music from the Cabin Guyz band energized the crowd, bringing everyone to their feet in a lively display of joy and celebration.
One of my favorite touches was the display of family photos, honoring those who couldn’t be there, including Zack’s brother Zane. It reminded everyone what weddings are truly about: love, family, and the people who shape our lives.
Every time I photograph a wedding at the Detroit Institute of Arts, I fall in love with it all over again. The museum offers timeless beauty, rich history, and an unbeatable backdrop for couples who want something unique.
