When I became a wedding photographer back in 2012, I never could have imagined ending up here. "Here" as in having couples-turned-lifelong-friends, shooting hundreds of weddings at the most beautiful venues in Metro Detroit, and fueling my passion for travel by adventuring from coast to coast. It's such a dream and privilege to serve couples like you on a daily basis!
Sometimes, the universe aligns in ways that leave me in awe. This was absolutely the case with Gillian and Collin. Their engagement session in Detroit last weekend was magical in every sense of the word—stylish, authentic, and filled with so much love. Let me tell you about how fate brought us together and the incredible morning we spent creating these memories.
This story starts on a summer day up north, where I was visiting my dad. At a small-town restaurant, I met Gillian’s sister, who happened to be our server. She had the kind of energy that lights up a room, so naturally, we started chatting. In the middle of swapping stories, she mentioned her sister was getting married next year. It felt like serendipity when I shared that I was a wedding photographer, and I handed her my contact information. Within a week, Gillian reached out to me, and the rest is history! Moments like these remind me that some things are simply meant to be.
We began their session at the Detroit Institute of Arts, one of my favorite places to shoot. The timeless architecture and serene outdoor spaces are a dream for capturing romantic moments. Even in the chilly November air, Gillian and Collin radiated warmth as they snuggled close and embraced each moment. Their ease in front of the camera made my job effortless—it was clear they were just happy to be together, soaking in the morning light.
From there, we headed to Capitol Park, where the urban backdrop provided a vibrant energy that complemented their style perfectly. The historic buildings and dynamic city vibe gave us endless opportunities for creativity. As they strolled hand in hand through the park, I couldn’t help but notice how natural their connection was. Every laugh, every glance, and every little moment between them spoke volumes about their love story.
We ended the session at Cannelle Bakery, just across from Capitol Park, for a cozy coffee break. The bakery’s warm, inviting atmosphere was the perfect way to wrap up our time together. Watching them sip coffee, share laughs, and relax in the glow of the morning was such a treat. In fact, these unposed, candid moments are where love shines the brightest, and I’m so grateful I got to capture them.
Next summer, Gillian and Collin will tie the knot at Willow Creek Barn in West Branch, MI—a venue close to their hearts, owned by dear family friends. Without a doubt, I already know their wedding day will brim with the same love, laughter, and authenticity that made this session so special.
Gillian and Collin, thank you for braving the November chill with such grace and enthusiasm. Truly, it was an absolute dream to capture your love in a city that means so much to me. Now, I’m counting down the days until your wedding—if it’s anything like your engagement session, it’s going to be unforgettable!
If you’re newly engaged and dreaming of a session that’s full of personality, let’s chat! I’d love to help you tell your unique love story.
