When I became a wedding photographer back in 2012, I never could have imagined ending up here. "Here" as in having couples-turned-lifelong-friends, shooting hundreds of weddings at the most beautiful venues in Metro Detroit, and fueling my passion for travel by adventuring from coast to coast. It's such a dream and privilege to serve couples like you on a daily basis!
Winter in Detroit has a certain charm, and when Jessica and Jon reached out to me about their Detroit Winter Engagement Session, I knew we could make something magical. Their plan was simple: embrace the city and showcase their love of vintage vibes, food, and fun. What better way to do that than by exploring Detroit’s iconic landmarks, including the famous Coney Islands? The cold, crisp air couldn’t stop us from having a blast as we wandered through the city’s most nostalgic spots.
Our first stop? The stunning Fisher Building, a true Detroit landmark. This gorgeous Art Deco gem set the stage for a warm and intimate start to the day. The grandeur of the building’s interior provided the perfect backdrop for Jessica and Jon’s photos. Their laughter echoed in the grand lobby as we captured their excitement for the next chapter of their lives.
With its intricate details and historical significance, the Fisher Building was a perfect fit for the couple’s vintage-inspired vision. We embraced the elegance of this space before heading out to the cold streets for a Detroit adventure.
Next up? The heart of Detroit’s food culture—Coney Island! Jessica and Jon are self-proclaimed foodies, so what better way to showcase their personalities than by stopping at both American Coney Island and Lafayette Coney Island, two of Detroit’s iconic landmarks. These rival coney joints are as famous for their competitive history as they are for their delicious chili dogs, and the friendly banter between the two spots set the perfect tone for the day.
We had a blast snapping photos at both locations—laughing, sharing bites of hot dogs, and embracing the quirky side of their engagement session. It’s not every day that a couple gets to feature the city’s rich culinary history in their photos!
After our Coney Island adventure, we took a leisurely walk around downtown Detroit. The streets were quiet, but the charm of the city was undeniable. With their warm coats, hats, and scarves, Jessica and Jon were the epitome of winter chic. The buildings and urban setting perfectly complemented their vintage-inspired vibe, making for some of my favorite photos from the day. It truly felt like the perfect winter day in Detroit.
The combination of historic buildings, iconic food stops, and the chilly Michigan air made this Detroit Winter Engagement Session one for the books. Jessica and Jon’s fun, lighthearted approach to their session made it all the more memorable. Their love for each other and for the city of Detroit shone through in every shot.
As a Detroit-based photographer, I always love showcasing the beauty and character of this incredible city. Whether it’s capturing the charm of a winter engagement session or the energy of a wedding day, Detroit always brings something special to the table.
