When I became a wedding photographer back in 2012, I never could have imagined ending up here. "Here" as in having couples-turned-lifelong-friends, shooting hundreds of weddings at the most beautiful venues in Metro Detroit, and fueling my passion for travel by adventuring from coast to coast. It's such a dream and privilege to serve couples like you on a daily basis!
There’s something so romantic about a rainy day, especially when it’s part of your engagement photos! Kate and Tyler’s rainy Detroit engagement photos are the perfect example of how embracing a little weather can lead to unforgettable moments. These two were in town visiting family for the holidays and had just one day available for their session. Even with rain in the forecast, they were all in—and I’m so glad they were!
We kicked off their rainy Detroit engagement photos in the heart of downtown Detroit, at Capitol Park. The sky was already overcast, but it set the perfect mood for their session. I love starting at Capitol Park—it’s such a charming, intimate spot that feels like a hidden gem in the city. We were able to capture some cozy, snuggly shots against the backdrop of Detroit’s beautiful architecture, and you could instantly see how Kate and Tyler’s love shines through.
As the rain picked up, we ducked under the awning at Parc restaurant, right on the edge of Campus Martius, where we took a brief pause from shooting. We chatted about Kate and Tyler’s upcoming wedding at Shepherd’s Hollow, their families, and their travel plans, making the best of the rain before heading out to explore Cadillac Square Markets. After a short break, we continued our exploration, heading toward Cadillac Square Markets. The Christmas tree at Campus Martius was sparkling, and we couldn’t resist capturing a few shots with the festive backdrop. The energy around us was contagious, and Kate and Tyler were so excited about their upcoming wedding at Shepherd’s Hollow. You could feel the joy and love in every moment.
By the time we hit Woodward, the rain was coming down pretty steadily, but Kate and Tyler weren’t phased at all. Instead of calling it quits, they embraced the rain and kept on moving forward with their session. The way they laughed and loved on each other made the weather feel like just another part of their adventure.
Despite the rain, Kate and Tyler were still full of energy and ready to finish strong. We wrapped up their rainy Detroit engagement photos by heading back to Capitol Park to take a few more pictures. With the wet pavement reflecting the lights, the city looked even more magical. It’s always amazing to see how the rain can transform a scene.
What I love most about Kate and Tyler’s session is how they embraced the rain. They didn’t let it dampen their spirits—instead, it became part of their story. Their connection was so natural and easy, and they were so comfortable with each other, which made for some truly beautiful photos. I’m SO excited for their upcoming wedding in June! Rain or shine, I know it will be just as beautiful as this day.
If you’re thinking about an engagement session and the weather is less than perfect, I’m here to tell you: don’t worry about it! Whether it’s rain, snow, or anything in between, I promise we’ll make the most of it, just like we did with Kate and Tyler’s rainy Detroit engagement photos.
