I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Katherine and Zach’s modern wedding at Brooklyn Detroit; a day filled with joy, color, and a little Spartan spirit! These two are such a perfect match—down-to-earth, adventurous, and always up for fun. Their day was nothing short of magical, and I’m excited to share a little glimpse into it with you.

A Detroit Love Story

Katherine and Zach’s love story started at Valentine Distillery, a cozy spot in Ferndale where they had their first date. Since then, their connection to Detroit has been a big part of their journey, and it was beautifully reflected in their wedding day, making every moment feel uniquely theirs.

Getting Ready at The Godfrey Hotel

The day started at The Godfrey Hotel, where both Katherine and Zach got ready with their closest friends. The atmosphere was electric, with a buzz of excitement filling the air. Katherine looked stunning as she slipped into her dress, and Zach was dapper as ever in his suit. The first look took place in the intimate setting of The Godfrey Hotel, and it was such a special moment. They saw each other for the first time as soon-to-be husband and wife, sharing a quiet, heartfelt moment before the whirlwind of the day began.

Portraits at the Detroit Institute of Arts

After the first look, we made our way to the Detroit Institute of Arts for some bridal party and couple portraits. The backdrop of the DIA perfectly complemented the modern and colorful vibe of their wedding. The whole bridal party looked incredible, and we had a blast capturing the joy and excitement leading up to the ceremony. Katherine and Zach’s portraits were a dream—the love between them was so genuine, and their chemistry made my job so easy!

The Ceremony at Brooklyn Detroit

The ceremony was held at Brooklyn Detroit, a modern, industrial-chic venue that added a unique and stylish touch to their day. With family and friends gathered, Katherine and Zach exchanged their vows, surrounded by love and the vibrant energy of the city. The ceremony space was beautifully adorned, thanks to Modernly Events, and every detail reflected their fun and colorful personalities.

It’s a SPARTY PARTY!

Now, the reception…this is where things got really fun! Katherine and Zach are proud Michigan State Spartans, so when Sparty made a surprise appearance on the dance floor, it turned into a full-blown Sparty Party! I don’t think I’ve ever seen guests get so excited—it was like the entire room erupted when Sparty came out to dance with the bride, groom, and all the guests. As a Michigan State alum myself, I was beyond thrilled to capture the epic energy of the night, and trust me, the photos of Sparty tearing it up on the dance floor are priceless.

A Day to Remember

One of my favorite parts of the day was how relaxed and joyful everything felt. Katherine and Zach trusted me to keep things running smoothly, and I loved being that calming presence, ensuring they could enjoy each moment without any stress. Their trust in me allowed for so many candid, fun, and unforgettable moments throughout the day.

From the beautiful portraits at the DIA to the lively reception at Brooklyn Detroit, every part of this wedding was filled with love and laughter. The day ended with a packed dance floor, amazing food by Detroit Catering Company, and memories that I know Katherine and Zach—and all of us who were there—will cherish forever.
